What is Play Therapy?
- A form of therapy designed to help children of all ages come to terms with issues and problems of living connected with themselves, others, their home or their school.
- Children use play to act upon and react to their feelings.
- Play therapy provides an environment where children can express themselves fully and work through their problems in a natural way.
Who Needs Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is designed for any child who:
- Exhibits problem behavior at home and/or school
- Has abrupt behavior changes (suddenly becomes isolated, withdrawn, angry, aggressive, anxious)
- Experiences life-change issues such as divorce, separation, death/birth of a sibling, or an adoption
- Is the victim of neglect, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse (known or suspected)
- Experiences chronic or severe illness/disability of self or family members
- Is experiencing developmental disruption and pain
